Cuatro de Oros

El Cuatro de Pentáculos describe por tradición una relación con la seguridad material que se ha vuelto cautelosa hasta rozar la rigidez. El Sol en Capricornio le presta cierta autoridad segura de sí misma — quien esto representa ha trabajado por lo que tiene y piensa conservarlo — pero el cuatro también porta la sombra de esa solidez: los muros levantados contra la escasez pueden convertirse en muros contra la vida. Convencionalmente la carta habla de prudencia financiera, la consolidación de recursos y el impulso humano de aferrarse con fuerza a lo acumulado. La pregunta que plantea con suavidad es si la seguridad se ha convertido en el objeto protegido en lugar de ser el suelo desde el que vivir.

Imagery

Se muestra típicamente como una figura sentada que aprieta una moneda contra el pecho, otra equilibrada sobre la cabeza y una bajo cada pie — la postura es una suerte de abrazo de cuerpo entero. Un paisaje urbano al fondo se lee por tradición como el mundo del que la figura se ha retirado para proteger lo que posee.

Reversed

The grip loosening or tightening — security held more wisely, or hoarding hardened past reason.

Reversed, the Four of Pentacles turns on the tight grip of the upright card. In the more hopeful reading, the hold loosens — a willingness to spend, to give, to open the hand that had clenched against loss, the recognition that security clutched too tightly stops serving life. In the harder reading, the grip tightens further: hoarding hardened into greed, a fear of scarcity that controls every choice, a possessiveness extended to people as well as things. Sun in Capricorn, inverted, either relaxes its hold or grips harder out of fear. Traditionally the card reversed asks what the holding-on actually protects against, and whether one's relationship to security has become the cage rather than the shelter. Occasionally it warns of the opposite extreme — security suddenly lost, the grip failing.
