Rey de Copas

El Rey de Copas representa por tradición la madurez emocional: una persona que siente profundamente y sin embargo permanece serena, capaz de sostener aguas turbulentas sin ser volcada por ellas. Se asocia a la diplomacia, el consejo y el tipo de compasión que mantiene la cabeza despejada bajo presión. El desafío silencioso de la carta es el coste de esa compostura — la línea entre dominar los propios sentimientos y simplemente ocultarlos.

Imagery

Se muestra habitualmente entronizado en un asiento de piedra que parece flotar sobre un mar agitado, una copa en una mano, el agua a su alrededor frecuentemente turbulenta mientras él permanece quieto. El mar circundante se lee con frecuencia como el reino emocional que gobierna sin ser arrastrado.

Reversed, the King of Cups turns on the governed feeling of the upright card. The composure that mastered turbulent waters can fail in either direction: emotions suppressed so thoroughly that they harden into coldness or quietly leak as moodiness and passive resentment, or the turbulent sea finally breaking the surface in volatility the calm exterior could no longer contain. Air of Water, inverted, loses the balance between feeling and control. Traditionally the reversal can also describe emotional manipulation — composure used as a tool against others — and asks honestly whether one is mastering one's feelings or merely concealing them, the very line the upright card walks.
